I went to watch the movie Bohurupi after office hours. The show was at 08:45 PM, and after shifting to Kolkata, late-night movie outings have become my jam. As this is not a movie review but I will say its one of the best Bengali movies I have seen in recent times.
After the movie was over, I walked out of the hall. It was around 11:45 PM, which is usually my bedtime, but here I was inside a mall. Normally, the mall is fairly noisy with the voices of the patrons, but it was significantly quieter at that time. I went to an area of the mall that overlooked the food court and saw it completely empty. The seats were packed up, the janitors were cleaning and some people were working on a new outlet that will open up soon.
Instead of descending from the 4th floor to the ground floor using an elevator. I thought I would go down using the escalator soaking in the views that I won’t be present any other time of the day.
Unlike the crowd of people in the busy hours, the mall was populated with few workers and guards on every floor bored to hell. The lights were down in every store, and mannequins were bathed in shadow. The eerie feeling was persistent as I descended through the mall and of course, I have posted some photos in this blog so that you can see it for yourself.
I loved this sort of feeling since I was young and now I finally know what its called. If you wanna know more here’s the link to the wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liminal_space_(aesthetic)#:~:text=Liminal%20space%20imagery%20often%20depicts,of%20both%20comfort%20and%20unease.
